In general, the color will not fall out. However, if you are worried about color loss, you can pre-soak it in salt water for 30 minutes before the first use to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun and contact with bleach.
Every kid grows at their own pace. Make sure you're buying based on your little one's height and weight.
Check your label for proper washing instructions. Be sure to wash your new items before the first use. Here's an extra tip: put the small stuff (mittens, socks, etc) in a laundry bag so they don't get lost.
